- made an outstanding contribution to the enhancement of women
- is a full-time University of Miami student
- maintains academic excellence
- exhibits leadership ability
- The candidate should have been employed at the University of Miami for a minimum of three years.

The May A. Brunson Award criteria:
- made an outstanding contribution, beyond the confines of her/his job, to impore the status of women at the University.
- is a University Administrator, Faculty or Staff member.
- must be an employee for at least 5 years.

The Rita Deutsch Award criteria:
- provided excellent service and commitment to the Women's Commission and to the University.
- is a University of Miami Faculty, Administrator or Staff member
- candidate must be an employee for at least two years
